With elegance and joy Belgo-Italian jazz outfit Ragini Trio uses high doses of fantasy and true musicianship to explore the Indian classical music repertoire. The typical instrumentation 'tabla-flute-tampura' is mirrored by 'drums-saxophone-double bass', respectively performed by renowned and award winning musicians Lander Gyselinck (Be), Nathan Daems (Be) and Marco Bardoscia (It).
You could easily speak of an all-star project when you know the background of each musician. Lander Gyselinck, Belgium's most praised drummer, is a three-time MIA winner (Music Industry Awards) in the category 'best musician'. He founded the contemporary hip hop-electronic outfit STUFF., the inventive dance-acts Lander & Adriaan and Beraadgeslagen. With LABtrio he won the award for 'best soloist', he produced the project Zwangere Guy en Lander Gyselinck and collaborated with Michel Portal, Kris Defoort, Esther Venrooy, Sinister Sister, Howard Peach,...
Reed player and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Daems is founder of Black Flower and Echoes of Zoo, both selected for the WOMEX showcase festival, and he collaborated with great international names such as Ibrahim Maalouf, The Gaslamp Killer, Bojan Z, Theodosii Spassov, Danalogue & Betamax, Warhaus, Smokey Hormel, Stef-Kamil Karlens, Lady Lynn, Myrddin, Tcha Limberger, Sylvie Kreusch, Pantelis Stoikos, Christos Barbas, etc... the list is basically endless.
Marco Bardoscia on double bass is part of Paolo Fresu's band and workes with Enrico Rava, Italy's greatest jazz musicians of this moment.
After releasing two albums, the first one in 2013 as a trio and the second one in 2019 in collaboration with Franco-Serbian pianist Bojan Z and Indian classical singer Sawani Mudgal, they have each focused on other projects for a while.
Now, with more experience in music and more study of the Indian rhythmic material 'Konnakol' where rhythmic structures are translated into syllables for better understanding, something that takes years of practice, and the practice of long raga's, it is time for Ragini Trio to showcase this evolution to the audience.
