Using the toolkit of jazz, Brussels based five-piece Black Flower create a serpentine mélange that is suspenseful, groovy, witching and hypnotic. Their fearless, border-defying approach find echoes of psychedelia, Ethio-jazz, prog-rock, afrobeat, post bop on mescaline, hybrid jazz and dub.
Triggered by the peculiar emotion Ethio-jazz scales provoke, Nathan Daems founded the band in 2013. With a solid grounding in jazz and a mind wired for the global soundscape, he introduced the world to Black Flower with the international resonating album Abyssinia Afterlife (2014). Since then, the band has continuously reinvented itself, drawing on the distinctive talents of each member and weaving together both traditional and contemporary musical influences from every corner of the globe.
Each album they produce - six in total - has received widespread acclaim in both niche- and mainstream press worldwide.
Black Flower regularly tours abroad and was officially selected by several showcase events such as Eurosonic (2015), WOMEX (2017), Roots & Hybrid (2019)
Their latest album, Kinetic (January 31, 2025) is yet another audacious reinvention. Bursting with high energy and psychedelic nuances, the record emphasizes movement and rhythm, transforming it into an irresistibly danceable experience.
